Have you ever asked AI to make up a joke? Have you seen it come back with something awkward, or so far out of context that it was almost embarrassing?

Of course, we cannot say this is an unavoidable technical limit or that it will always be this way. Generative AI can produce humor and wit. But research suggests that the results may repeat themselves or sound alike, and may miss the context and tastes that differ from person to person.

I like the idea that jokes are humanity’s most sublime invention, and one of our strongest defense mechanisms for enduring reality. I still cannot imagine where this vast wave of progress will end or what comes after it. But I hope trading jokes remains a uniquely human ability, one that lets us empathize with each other.

I hope the products we make carry this spirit, with wit showing up when it is needed. I want to make products without AI slop, built on empathy, that feel friendly to use and bring a little joy.

That does not mean I want to make something ridiculous. Anyone can make anything with AI, but I want to make something that even one person genuinely wants to use. If we put things out carelessly just because we can, are we not making the same kind of unfunny joke, one that makes only its creator laugh and no one else?

That is why I will make witty, practical things.

This may be too modest to call a vision or mission, but please take it as a firm commitment.
